The southern French city of Carcassonne was founded on an important trade route between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic. Because of its strategic location, the city was often conquered and has known many rulers. As a result of this varied...

With this expansion, the players have new possibilities of strengthening their influence in the area around Carcassonne. Now traveling merchants transport their goods to surrounding cities and monasteries. The cities in the surrounding countryside can increase to a size large enough to elect their own mayors. Simple farmers build large and wealthy farms and the church tries to strengthen their influence by establishing abbeys.

Nice addition to the game

My girlfriend and i bought this expansion today and immediately started playing it. There are a few new additions, the abbey, the mayor, the wagon and the barns. We found the barns to be quite confusing and just add to the farming system and how confusing that can get.

One surprise however, was the Abbey. I found this to be quite an interesting little piece that adds a new element to the game. The Abby can be placed anywhere on the map as long as it is surrounded on the four corners, (not diagonals). This allows you to finish those pesky cities that just wont get finished.

They mayor and the wagon are both useful however they do not change the game too much. All in all i found this expansion worth the money as it does add some new exciting elements to the game, but definitely not necessary.
