The rules are simple and easy to learn... but mastering the strategy is the real challenge.
One card is dealt to each player on the first round, two cards on the second, and so on. Players bid the number of tricks they think they will win.
Make the exact number of tricks bid and you win points; too many or too few tricks and you lose points. The Wizard and Jester cards add a wild element to the strategy.
Wizard is pure fun, challenging, baffling and simply habit forming. Wizard is quickly becoming the most popular card game of the decade.
Our family has been playing games for many years, tracking the games played, scores, winners, etc. By far our favorite game is this one. The game teaches young children a lot about bidding and trick taking and over time our children have become very adept at counting cards and keeping track of tricks. We have consistently shown that the person who goes down the least very nearly always wins the game. Accurate bidding and planning for trick taking is key. Once the other players know that, though, they can foil your plans. When our family needs to reach for a game we can all agree upon, this is the one we choose.
