What we have in 'Roadkill' is essentially Car Wars as a card game. Steve Jackson Games actually released a Car Wars card game, but this one is actually superior to the official title.
The game takes a surprisingly long time to play, at roughly 30 minutes per player up to 10 players. There is a lot of interplay between 'drivers' as they attempt to pass one another, gain the lead, and move onto the card representing the next section of road. The game ends when a certain number of road sections have been passed.
One of the nice things about the game is that it tends to be self-balancing without having to gang up on the leader. Most hazards tend to hurt the person in the front of the pack, making it easier to come from behind. Moving onto the next road section is much easier if one does not have a lot of cards trailing behind, too.
Some elements of the game are a bit clunky and the quality of the cards themselves is execrable. To describe them as flimsy would be giving them far too much credit. Still, this is an innovative game and worth it if you can pick it up inexpensively.
