The TAMSK-potential is the first additional piece of Project GIPF. It is named after the game TAMSK and offers new ways to play GIPF.
A clarifying note from designer Kris Burm about the GIPF Project expansion Set #1 and the TAMSK potentials included with the TAMSK game:
As you maybe know, enclosed in the TAMSK box are 3 white and 3 black TAMSK-potentials. These are samples. You need a minimum of 3 potentials of each color to get a feeling of how they change a game of GIPF. The GIPF Project Expansion Set #1 contains 12 TAMSK-potentials; 6 potentials per color is the standard number to play with. The kit is meant to give players who like playing with the potentials the possibility to get more potentials without needing to buy a second game of TAMSK. That aside, it is also meant to serve those who want to find out what potentials are all about without needing to purchase TAMSK.
Just to be clear, you can use the TAMSK potentials included in the basic TAMSK game to link TAMSK to GIPF; but the three included in TAMSK are really not enough to make the combined game all that interesting. With only 3 TAMSK-potentials, it's very hard to get one near the center and so they don't have all that much impact. With the 6 potentials included in this set, though, things start to get rather more interesting and the TAMSK subgame has a much stronger influence.
It's cheap, and it significantly expands GIPF if you own both games.
Note too, you don't have to play the 'tournament' version of the game to enjoy the TAMSK-potentials; you can use them with the standard game also. The GIPF tournament game is very tough, and can be daunting until you have a lot of games under your belt. It is not really necessary to tackle this version to enjoy the integrated games.
