One of My Favorite Games Ever
January 10, 2004

I have very fond memories of playing this when I was younger and recently snatched up a mint-condition copy to renew the fire. I hate the fantasy genre, but Hero Quest is so 'fantasy lite' as to be appealing. It fits a perfect niche between complexity and simplicity that is so important for a good game with mass appeal to have. I just wish this would be produced again. Hopefully someone out their is listening! Until then, enjoy it if you are one of the lucky ones to have it, and try to find it if you don't have it. (P.S. If you look around on the Internet, there is a ton of expansion material for this game to keep it fresh.)

Zargon is not supposed to win.
October 22, 2002

The point of being Zargon is to make it fun. Zargon is not SUPPOSED to win. (You do want to try, though, because easy gets boring. Try making all the grey creatures in the first quest spell casters and all can use any Chaos spell.)

The fun is creating difficult (but not impossible) quests and using your imagination (and some plastic props) to bring it to life. There are plenty of additions you can download to make it more interesting if you want.

Great Adventuring
September 27, 1999

Great game in general and great as an intro to more detailed fantasy role playing games. A lot of fun to play with limited time and simple rules that are easy to teach to anyone. Easy to create your own dungeons and modify the game for a new experience every time.
