*****
this is good as a team or individual players
August 27, 2003

This gets us all laughing- from ages 10 to 80 and while we are having fun, we learn interesting bits of science as the game asks you a question about a scientific fact and you have to either bluff and explain why the fact is true or you get the card that has the true answer and then we all guess who is telling the truth. It also exercises your brain cells!

Substandard party game
September 26, 2005

Bamboozle is not what the previous review describes. It sounds like they are referring to Balderdash. Bamboozle is a sub-par game that has been improved upon already in a game called This Vs. That.

In both games the overall concept is basically the same: You split the whole group up into 2 teams. A timer is started that is counting up. The two teams take time to create a list of words. When done writing the words each team has its own button to push to stop their timer.

Now the lists are swapped, and it's up to one player to get his/her teammates to guess the words on the list (as in Taboo). The trick is that player uses the other team's timer to get his/her team to guess them. In other words the amount of time you have to give clues to your team is directly equal to the amount of time it took the other team to create the list.

The difference between Bamboozle and This vs. That is in how you determine what words to write down. In Bamboozle there is a set of lettered dice in a shaker. You shake the dice and then drop them into place. The only rule now is that your words must start with the letters on the dice. I find that this makes it much too easy for the teams to create a list. They could end up having a list done in 5 seconds which isn't nearly enough time for the clue giver.

This vs. That has an entirely electronic system. Each round the little screen will put up two categories. For example, Things that are hot VS. Things that are cold. Each team gets one of the two categories and must create a list of words that fit in that category. Plus, This vs. That requires that the boys play against the girls. This is always a lot of fun.

If you find yourself interested in the concept of using the other team's time then I strongly suggest you look for This vs. That (made by Toysite). As you can see I give Bamboozle a rating of 1, but This vs. That would get a solid rating of 4. Avoid Bamboozle, there are too many other fun party games.
