Whether you're bidding on bags of money, scrabbling to stay solvent, or just trying to fool a good-natured Zombie into giving you more money, Change is a great little game. Actually, it's three games in one.
Change is a collection of three money-themed games, all set at Friedey's (more or less). The deck is composed of bills in denominations of 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10 dollars, and each game is a different, simple, and strategic diversion. Games include "Make Your Own Change Night," "Boneyard," and "Diminishing Returns."
Change! is not a game per se. It's not quite even a set of games, as the packaging claims. It is a collection of rules, and some pretty art.
Because of its simplicity, when you buy Change! you are essentially buying a small piece of literature by James Ernest and a good chunk of art by Brian Snddy. The rules make for good play, and the artwork is nice (although it's all taken from the Lord of the Fries cards), but the components are so incredibly simple that I wonder why Ernest decided to market this product instead of offering it for free (hint: He wanted to make money).
As stated in the rules, one of the included games has been offered for free on the back of Cheapass business cards. The game is called Fight, and each player starts with 64 cents in the following demoninations: 1 quarter, 2 dimes, 3 nickels, 4 pennies. Players take turns putting any single coin from their stash into the pot and taking out any amount up to 1 cent less than what they put in (I put in a dime, I can take out up to 9 cents). The object is to run all the other players out of money.
That's the kind of games Change! has. Games which you could just as easily play with coins.
The best thing about Change is the price and size. It's only a couple of bucks, and it fits easily in a pocket or purse for a quick game with some friends. The games themselves are pretty dirt-simple. Our favorite one is the one in which you're trying to continually cheat a dimwitted zombie out of money by presenting bills for which he cannot provide exact change.
This game won't change your life, but you'll probably get your money's worth of entertainment out of it.
