Blink can best be described as Spit meets Uno. Spit, of course, is the classic card game where two players race to slam down cards in ascending or descending order in the center of the table. Spit, although a great game, is a bit tricky for most kids because the ascending/descending options can be tough to grasp until numbers are thoroughly mastered.

The clever thing about Blink is that it combines the speed-play concept of Spit with an attribute-matching system (much like Uno, in which players try to match numbers or colors). This makes the game very accessible to young kids. In Blink, the cards have three attributes: shape, color, and number. Players race, frantically pounding down cards that share an attribute with one of the two exposed cards in the center. The first player to run out of cards wins.

My kids don't play the game very rapidly, but they really love that they can play as fast as they want without taking turns. This is a nice change of pace from other games. The game is fun for adults as well.

The game is advertised as a 2-player game, but when slow kids are playing, it is fairly easy to adapt the game to more players.

A fast-paced favorite

This card game is easy to learn, fast-paced, high-energy, very short, and loads of fun. We always play more than one hand and usually find ourselves laughing and squealing in the process. And we don't even have kids. It's a great tension buster, you get totally engrossed, and you've still got your entire evening left to play more Blink or another game.

Just try to beat your kids

In Blink, each player gets half the deck, two cards are placed face up, and you race to get rid of your cards as quickly as possible by matching either the color, the type, or the number of the symbol on the card. I would not liken it to War because unlike War there really isn't any luck involved. It's all about speed. This is a great game to play with kids, who can be surprisingly fast. My eight-year-old can beat me regularly. My six-year-old is slower, but I can handicap the game without her knowing it simply by giving myself a few extra cards. One time she laughed so hard while playing it that she fell off the stool she was sitting on. Even though it's only a two player game, it goes so quickly that it's easy to play with groups using a sort of 'tournament' format. My kids like to watch, though they much prefer to play. I highly recommend this game. It's simple, fun for both kids and grown ups, fast, and probably even a bit educational.

Fast Furious and Fun

Blink is a very simple game (basically a variant of War) but quite fast and furious. A game only lasts two minutes, so it's quite easy to give everyone multiple turns. I really dig the art and colors on the cards, too. If you're looking a quick game fix, give Blink a try. At the very least, it's really quite fun.
