Chez Geek is the award-winning card game that throws open the door on apartment life--the cheap booze, the interrupted sleep, the shrieks of your roommate's S.O. Now add even more stress to your living situation with Chez Geek 2: Slack Attack. This 55-card expansion adds new stuff, new activities, new annoying "friends"--and, yes, new nookie!--to the ever-important quest for Slack.
Okay. If you liked the basic Chez Geek, you'll like Slack Attack. Pure and simple. This expansion adds no new rules to the mix (though it comes with the most updated rules, tweaked slightly since version one of the basic game). You get 55 new cards. There are thirteen new Things to buy, but only four of these have actual game text. The rest are more books, food, and the rest of the familiar types, with a cost and a slack value. The fifteen new activities include a mere five new cards, and ten familiar faces like Sleep, Hang Out At Cafe, Surf the Net, and various TV and Nookie cards. Even the Whenever cards include two more Noisy-Things-Outside-the-Bedroom-Window-that-Cancel-Sleep Cards.
So why give this game four stars? Because Chez Geek is a concept game, wherein a large percentage of the fun derives from 1) admiring the art of John Kovalic, 2) chuckling over the flavor text, and 3) laughing at how the rules simulate the 'reality' of apartment-sharing. If this was a hardcore gamers' game, Slack Attack would merit maybe a star-and-a-half for adding precious little new stuff rules-wise. But humor-wise, this expansion adds loads. The card Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is another Cost 1, Slack 1 Food. But the line 'Ah, the sushi of cookies' kept us smiling even after the Hungry Girl came over and ate them. The Bubble Blower is a Thing worth 1 Slack, but the Slack value increases to three if you also have a Cat, a Dog, or Weed.
If you got bored of the original Chez Geek, these new cards won't infuse the game with new excitement and strategy for you. But if you enjoy it as a clever filler game that you often end up playing a second time, buy the expansion, and find out what happens when the Nookie Monster comes over and you roll for Power Outage Nookie....
