Springtime. Midnight. The Mall is beckoning.
Welcome to LeGrand Mall, the oldest and most poorly secured indoor mall in the world. It's as airtight as the Titanic and as solid as a wet paper bag. This place just begs to be robbed.
Enter you. And your infantile collection of friends. It's not enough to simply loot this mall. No, you have to do it with a certain amount of flair. Which boils down to an all-night looting race, with shopping carts, flashlights, and guns.
The object? Park your car, dash into the mall, and load your shopping cart with the goodies on your list. You can snitch stuff out of the stores if you like, but it's even more fun (and easier) to steal it from your friends. And that would explain why you're carrying a huge gun.
This reprinting comes with the original Phil Foglio art.
This game is an absolute blast to play, although with four players (which is what I played it with), the recommended 200 points is a bit long.
The basic premise is that you and your 'friends' are looting the absolute most insecure mall in the world. That's not saying that it needs people to affirm it all the time: It's saying that the management hardly bothers locking the doors at night.
Each of you is armed with a gun (presumably some sort of tennis-ball gun, owing to the fact that shooting someone only knocks them down for a few moments), and you rampage through the mall grabbing things off the shelves and racing to get it back to your cars before someone knocks you out and grabs -your- stuff. Honor among thieves? Don't make me laugh. Well, okay, do. I enjoy laughing.
The items themselves are represented by standard poker cards, of which this game requires two decks shuffled together (including jokers). Usually, these cards are just stuff, but some cards give you movement bonuses, and some let you cancel someone's action.
Possibly the best thing about the game is the number of variants offered online at Cheapass's website (http://www.cheapass.com/neat/variants/johnwoo.shtml).
Race to fill your shopping cart and get back to your car before another player stuns you and takes your booty! Watch out where you walk, or you could get run over by other shoppers!
Anyone who has ever spent time in a shopping mall around peak times will recognize and laugh at these dynamics. Highly replayable and an excellent value. Our family has had more laughs and fun playing this game than with some popular award-winning games.
