Ready, set, go! In Monza, the little race cars are zipping around the circuit. The colors on the dice correspond to the colors of the squares but only the player who throws colors matching the colors of the squares adjacent to his own race car may drive ahead.
With some luck with the dice and tactical maneuvering, a race car can be moved up to six squares in one round. But watch out: the obstacles have to be bypassed in a clever way.
A speedy car race encouraging early tactical thinking.
This game introduces fairly simple tactical thinking to young kids, and succeeds quite well. My kids love playing it. There are interesting decisions to make on most turns, which is a real change from most American games for children.
Like Mark's kids, my kids have a little trouble rolling six dice at once. We have them roll three at a time, which works fine.
As an adult game, there is probably not enough strategy and too much luck to make it great (though the advanced rules help). But as a child's game, it's right in the zone, and there is enough complexity that adults won't be bored playing it with their kids.
