Congratulations! You've just invented Flammable Beer. Your work has just begun.
The Big Idea is a hilarious game of inventing and investing, where players try to market wacky products like Erotic Chowder and Mentholated Shampoo. Sound easy? Maybe that's because you've never had to come up with the perfect sales pitch for the Non-Stick Toupee.
In this remake of a classic Cheapass game, players create amusing products using descriptions like Flying and Herbal and items like Robot and Monkey. You could create Mail-Order Clown Pants, Electric Cat Sushi, or even Gigantic Addictive Chicken Cleaner. Do you think you're the marketing whiz who can talk the public into a Perforated Kilt? Then you're ready to play The Big Idea.
This edition of the game contains all new artwork.
After reading good reviews on BoardGameGeek I decided to give it a try. It turns out it is one of those games that when you play it you think it is OK but you probably will never play it again.
We played this game with people who like strategy games and they didn't like this game at all!
We played it with people who like party games and right away we knew they are not going to like the investment part of the game so we changed the rules. Everybody shows their big idea and has up to 30 sec. to convince people why his idea is good. Then there is one judge (that rotates, just like apples to apples) who picks the best idea and that person gets the point. So when you change the rules the game is fun but after playing 5 times cards repeat. IT NEEDS MORE CARDS!!! Even when you buy the expansion it still needs more cards. I guess you can make some more cards by yourself if you really like this game and make this a really cheapass game.
I guess that it was not a good idea to make a combination of strategy and party game. People who like strategy games are not going to like it, people who like party games not going to like it and people who like both are either in the mood to play a party or strategy game.
I am giving this game 2 stars not 1 because we had some fun playing it with changed rules but I do not think we will play it again.
