At DragonCon, I checked out of a copy of this game. Wind up pawns? Zombies? A race around the graveyard? Sounds like a winner! And at times, it is. We laughed a lot... beer would have helped. But we ran into a few fundamental problems with the game that would prevent us from playing again.

1. All zombies are not created alike. My blue zombie wouldn't keep walking and got stuck as it moved. Tapping it on the head would help for a step or two. We banged on the table a lot, moving pieces and starting markers to keep things going. Some would turn as they moved. The pieces are awesome and fun, but ultimately arbitrary in behavior.


2. The card meld game to actually provoke movement can be a little slow paced. Our game was fast, but if someone tries to think very much while passing around cards, they will slow the game down quite a bit. Had our game lasted longer, this phase of the game might have gotten a bit annoying.


3. The boards were uneven and pieces would trip moving from board to board. Other elements caused playability issues as well. It was difficult to wind up your piece and get it placed well on your starting marker without moving it... it was hard to accomplish much in a turn, and one small mistake sent you back one board.

We ended up rooting for the person winning to finish the game. This is typically a bad sign.

So we had fun, didn't drink enough beer while we played... and would consider playing with a different set (so we didn't know which pawns didn't play as well)... but YMMV. Might be more fun for younger kids.
