Together, the players first build the map of the fjords, adding their houses in strategic locations as they build. When the map is complete, the players claim territory, trying to block their opponent from as much as possible, while securing these areas for themselves.
The player with the most territory wins the game!
I've only managed to get in a couple of games. But my initial response is rather favorable. The playing time is reasonably fast and one needn't play sets of 3 rounds as directed when there isn't time. It packs small so its good for traveling (though you need to play on a stable hard surface).
The two phases are both strategic. The consequences of tile placement aren't immediately obvious and allocation of the farm seeds is crucial and challenging. The placing of the fields in very important -- the first few moves may totally decide the outcome. Its reminiscent of "Go" in the territorial fencing off aspect.
I managed to get my set-in-his-ways father to play the game and he enjoyed it. One nice thing this game offers is that margins can be rather close, thus the loser may only lose by a few points, and for some that reduces the 'sting' of not winning.
