With two game DVDs, Scene It? Deluxe Movie Edition has more of the real film clips, trivia questions and puzzlers that have made Scene It? Such a hot-selling game. "Reel" fans and casual watchers alike will love reliving great movie moments from Hollywood's best films as they race each other around the board. Be the first to make the Final Cut and win the game. When this game first hit the scene (No pun intended), I was convinced it was going to be the greatest movie game ever. It completely changes the way you look at trivia games when you can actually see clips of the movies to which the questions refer. There are now about 6 spin-offs of this original and they are all quite enjoyable, especially in large groups. People who don't even know the answers often enjoy playing just for the sake of watching the scenes.
I now see that there are possible improvements, though. The improvement I have already seen is evident in "Shout About Movies". This game is more enjoyable than Scene It because there is no board and everything is controlled by the DVD. But "Shout" lacks one thing that "Scene It" has, replay-ability. While you are able to play "Scene It" dozens of times with all new questions and clips, "Shout About Movies" is only playable 3 times before you have to buy a new volume.
So for any gamer looking for fun movie trivia, or someone interested in trying DVD gaming for the first time Scene It is an excellent choice, and a much better investment.
It is pretty standard, movie trivia that is boosted by a chance to watch the trivia in question. There is a nice twist on the video questions because there is more than one style of question asked.
For example, after a clip you may be asked to name the actresses in the clip. Ten minutes later, the clip may have a follow - up question such as 'Give the number of mirrors in the shot'. The game requires you to really focus on the clip.
The drawback in this game is the board portion.
FIRST OFF -- ELIMINATE THE 'BUZZ' CARDS FROM THE GAME.
Landing on the 'Buzz' spot or rolling a Buzz' on the die instantly brings your turn to a close. In every session I've played of this (four), the 'Buzz' cards led to huge gaps between the leader and the followers. Sitting and watching others play while you stew from a Buzz card is disheartening.
There may also come a time when the movie clips are so middle of the road that they will bore genuine film buffs. It looks like the game makers had their sights set on the widest possible audience. That means a lot of these clips may be humorous now but laughingly dated ten years from now when no one cares about them anymore.
