In this game, the fishes really can grant wishes -- but you have to throw them back.
Players are fishermen, trying to catch the most valuable fish and sell them in the market for the best prices. With limited space for storing caught fish, players must use their wits to get the right fish to market at the right times. This is where the granting of wishes is most helpful. Just catch the fish who will grant the wish you want, throw it back, and you get your wish. Sounds simple, but the game does require a bit of thinking and planning. The wishes can help you increase the value of fish when sold, grant you extra storage space, and several other useful things.
So, now we know that sometimes it is best to let the big one get away!
If Wishes were Fishes has become one of our new favorite family games. This game looks like a lot of fun, and it is. The board is colorful, the fish are nice wood pieces, and the worms are truly wormy. They are great to wiggle at people (freaks the mom out). The graphics on this game are fantastic. If all that weren't enough, the game is exciting and fun. You look forward to every turn and you care about what the others are doing so it isn't boring to wait for your turn. Each person's moves affect everybody's plans so you find yourself anxiously watching to see what someone will do next. This game has a nice balance of luck and strategy. It is also possible to surge from behind with some clever, well-timed moves so it never feels hopeless if you get behind. Some of my other favorite games are Puerto Rico, Caylus, and Settlers of Catan. We own lots of games and this game is different from any of our other games. It is one of the most fun games we have ever bought, and is still one of our top choices to play even though we have lots to choose from and have had it for a while. It has lots of replay value. Buy this game as a fun family game and you won't be disappointed!
Fun little game with a lot going on. Game is reliant on the randomization of fish cards that are exposed. You buy them with these wonderful squiggly worms which come in different shapes. Must watch what your opponents are doing. You either keep the card as the fish that is depicted or you use the wish instead.
This games comes out often and is much loved...
