Product Description

If you get irritated that your field with a "6" on it isn’t producing because nobody is rolling your number in Settlers of Catan, then the Catan Event cards will fill your heart with joy! This small deck is a simple addition to the game that replaces dice, giving production "rolls" a degree of randomness while keeping things less extreme. But rather than simply being a deck of dice, the Catan Event cards also add events that occur throughout the game, spicing up the original play without adding too much chaos. This deck is an inexpensive yet colorful way to add a bit of variety to your Catan games.

Just what I needed
January 03, 2007

I love playing settlers, but it really annoys me that EVERY SINGLE GAME someone sits there not enjoying themselves because the dice don't go their way. Its not that they made bad choices, and its not that they are having a tougher, more challenging game, but rather they are just plain bored, and out of the game through no fault of their own.

These dice cards fix that, in my opinion. Settlers is getting played more now that it has for a while. The events are a bit "meh", but thats not why I bought the cards.

So, if you are tired of watching your friend slip further and further into black depression because of a couple of plastic cubes, buy these today!

Not that bad...
January 02, 2007

I bought this not expecting too much. The event cards replace the dice in the normal game. Some of the "rolls" have extra things to do, like collect an extra resource, steal a resource, passing a resource, or damage road. It adds a little flavor, but nothing to write home about. What I enjoyed is that the "rolls" are now a bit more balanced to the statistical probability. This way the person stuck next to the 2s or 12s have a better chance at collecting a resource.

This is not a must have expansion, but it's nice to have.

Not Worth It
January 01, 2007

My family (aged 36 to 68) loves to play Seafarers and Cities & Knights. We thought the events on these cards might spice things up a bit. Unfortunately, however, 22 of the 36 cards are actually very boring. 16 of them are just regular dice rolls with no events, and six are robber attacks. The events on the other cards are not very exciting (details follow). We will be returning to our dice...

ROBBER FLEES (2) remove robber from play without drawing card from anyone

CALM SEAS (2) player(s) with most harbors receives resource card of choice

NEIGHBORLY ASSISTANCE (2) player with most VP gives resource card to each other player

EPIDEMIC (2) each city receiving resources this roll receives only one resource instead of two

TOURNAMENT (1) player with most soldier cards revealed receives resource card of choice

CONFLICT (1) player with Largest Army (or most soldier cards) takes one resource card from any one player

TRADE ADVANTAGE (1) player with Longest Road takes one resource card from any one player

PLENTIFUL YEAR (1) each player receives one resource card of choice

EARTHQUAKE (1) one road per player is damaged (turned sideways); roads cannot be built until damage is repaired (one lumber and one brick)

GOOD NEIGHBORS (1) each player passes one resource card to player on left.
