The best simple war gaming interface ever
November 01, 2000

While not as complicated or accurate as more dedicated war-games, this game nevertheless is an excellent rendition of small scale WWII tactical situations.

A great beginners game!
April 19, 2000

I found a copy of this game at a yardsale about a year ago, and I quickly learned to play it. The beginners game has next to no depth, but it's only meant for the greenest of the green. The tournament game has a lot of options, and nothing is more fun than planning amphibious assaults, cutting supply lines, etc. I recently lost the instructions to it, but buying an new copy of this game was worth it. If you can find a copy of this game, and you want to take that first step into being a real grognard (not that I have. I'm happy being normal :D) then this is the game to start with.

Simple wargame
March 28, 2002

Tactics II was one of the original wargames. It is a simple two player game. The technology is about WWII to Korean War level. The map and situation is hypothedical.

This boardgame uses the cardboard playing pieces, or 'chits' as the units on a grid map. The units are either infantry divisions, armor divisions or the headquarters unit. The numbers on the unit give strength and movement ability. A '1-5' infantry can use 5 movement points and has a combat strength of '1.' A die is used to resolve combat. This game is similer to Africa Korps, (please refer to my review there), but much simpler and non-historical. I think a 10 year old can handle this game.

If you see this game in a yard sale, grab it. It is both very playable and also has some collector value.
