Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game is an exciting game of mistrust, intrigue, and the struggle for survival which places each player in the role of one of ten of their favorite characters from the show. Each playable character has their own abilities and weaknesses, and all must work together in order for humanity to have any hope of survival. However, one or more players in every game secretly is secretly a Cylon, and wants the humans to perish.
I didn't think I would like a game based on a TV series (or movie for that matter) but this game was literally fantastic! Everyone gets a character and plays it throughout the game and basically you are running around the Battlestar trying to fend off the cylon attacks. There are a myriad of other things to do in this game also. One player (or two) is a cylon and you do not know who it is usually throughout the game. The game I played the player that was the cylon did a really good job of not arousing suspicion about his identity and before we discovered his identity it was too late. The one downside to the game is the fact that the cylons seem to win most of the time but I didn't mind that because I like a game that is a challenge to play. When the humans finally do win you will be ecstatic (if you're a human, of course). The fact that the humans have a hard time winning did not in any way lower my opinion of the game. This is the first thematic Fantasy Flight game I have played and I can see why they are currently the hottest game company around!
Love the cooperative aspect, yet the battle of the two sides. and the receipt of new loyalty cards half way through makes for interesting strategy in the first half. Think you are on the human side? It all could change midway and you may not be happy you worked so hard for humans!
The first game took a bit of time getting used to the extensive rules. Would recommend a second and third playing soon there after, but once you get the hang of it, fun WILL ensue.
would have preferred the original series/cast vs the new, but our family has had hours and hours of fun playing this one.
Need to see about getting the expansion!
Very good, balanced game. The only major flaw is there are a lot of rules to digest before playing. Having one player secretly working against the mission makes for a very interesting dynamic. I've never watched the show (although we used to watch the original series in the 1970's), and the game stands on it's own without needing to be a fan or know the characters. We had a great time playing for the first time and I definitely plan to play again. I don't know why someone would give this game 1/2 star unless they don't like games. I guess there is always Sudoku.
