This game starts out safely enough, with the first floor atop pillars in everyone's color. Each turn, players remove a pillar from beneath any floor and place it on the highest level. When everyone agrees that no further safe removal is possible, the next floor is placed. Placing pillars is worth one to three points. Scoring starts from the second level upward--and so does eccentric and precarious construction up to the final, tiny fifth floor (where pillars may be stacked on each other). The player whose pillar first reaches the highest floor becomes the leader, and remains so until another player supersedes him with a better score on that level. The leader wins if a competitor topples the structure, or if all agree that further safe plays are impossible. The previous leader wins if the current leader topples the Villa. Germany's 2002 Game of the Year defies all building regulations; it will have you on edge, but still laughing with your opponents.
