My parents-in-law gave us an old copy of this game a couple of years ago. Since then, we've enjoyed many rounds of the game with friends.

I cannot speak for the quality of the pieces in this edition, but I can describe the game play (of the classic wooden game).

You have a rectangular board in which you set round (short cylinder) pieces with small handles. You must hold back the spring-loaded bar while doing so. The pieces are of three sizes: small (worth 1 point), medium (worth 2 points), and large (worth 3 points).

Once the pieces are all placed in the board, you can release the spring-loaded bar so it pushes tightly against the field of pieces. Along the side of the board are numbered increments, looking much like a (simplified) ruler.

Players take turns removing one piece per turn. You may only touch one piece on your turn. You may choose to pass, but if everyone around the table does so, then you may not pass again until you've attempted to remove a piece.

When you remove your piece (or clumsily touch a piece, if you're me): If the spring-loaded bar does not move, you keep your piece. If the bar moves, but does not go past the next numbered line, you get to keep your piece. If the bar moves past the next numbered line you do not get to keep your piece, in addition you need to relinquish three points worth of pieces from your accumulated total.

The game ends when there are only two pieces left. All players add up the values of their pieces (1 point for small, 2 points for medium, and 3 points for large pieces). The player with the most points wins.

I love this game. Everyone with whom I've played, really enjoyed it as well.
