It's a high-stacking 3-D crossword game! You and your opponents spell words with stackable letter tiles on the special gameboard to score points. Build words by playing letters across or down on the board and by stacking letters on top of letters already on the board to form new words.
It's this 3-dimensional game play that makes Scrabble Upwords so unique and challenging to play. Score points for each letter in your word and every letter tile under each letter of your word. Letters can be stacked five tiles high -- so your score can really add up fast! Build words, stack letters, score high and have fun!
My family loves this game. We're huge word buffs, and we like this even more than Scrabble, because you can really be creative. You have so many more possibilities, and and there's quite a bit of strategy involved once you get the hang of it.
After playing scrabble for many years, upwords is so much more challenging. We play (two of us) the 8X8 original version and take 7 tiles not 5. We have played on airplanes, boats, (keep one in the car)in parking lots, while the crowd thins out after a concert. We have worn out many tiles and get new games at tag sales. I believe it will keep us from going on the funny farm, keep using the grey matter.
Since we found Upwords we have completely abandoned Scrabble - our old favorite. I have told numerous family and friends about it and I am probably responsible for selling about 10 or more games to them! The tiles are wearing out , since we play it every day.
