A FUN Challenge

If you enjoy the other Empire Builder related games, then this one will be no disappointment.

I would classify Martian Rails as one of the more challenging Rail games by Mayfair. It is closer to Iron Dragon in difficulty than any of the other rail games of the same vein.

The board is divided into 3 large diamonds that, if you imagine as a 3D object, all connect from East to West through the sides. Unlike Lunar Rails, you cannot go North to south.

The disasters are very interesting, and again there ones similar to Russian Rails where taking 2 different specific commodities to a location will provide a payout. For example, one of my favorites was "'War of the Worlds': Take Ray Guns and Martians to Syrtis Major and receive 45 million."

Once again, like in Iron Dragon, we see forests, plains, deserts, mountains, volcanoes/alpines, jungle, marshes, lakes, rivers, etc. Unlike Iron Dragon, you don't have the advantage of character cards to help build through the more difficult terrain. The board is around the same size however.

A must have for anyone who enjoys the Empire Builder series, but be prepared for a challenge and trying different strategies. This one is not as easy and interconnected as the others, and you will find yourself living off of delivery to delivery for a long time.
