This is called Travel Blokus (I've also heard it called "Blokus Duo") but don't be fooled into thinking that this is just a miniature version of the original Blokus. It could be more accurately described as the two-player version of the original.

If you compare the two, the other one probably offers more technically, since you can play up to four people and if you do play with two you have the option to play 2 colors each, or just look up the dimensions for Blokus Duo and play in a corner with using only two color sets. However, the original is significantly larger. This one is pretty compact, yet not to the point that you are always worried about dropping and losing a piece.

This game is a lot of fun. Takes about 15 seconds to explain the rules and objective, and then you're playing. One thing I really like about Blokus is that it evolves with you. By that I mean as you play you start to pick up on deeper strategic ways to play. I've only been playing a week or so, but I've certainly learned that looking at your opponents possible moves is a must, and it's very helpful to try and reserve spots for your pieces.

If you've been considering Blokus, but you're not sure you want to pay for the original, and you will most likely play only 2 players most of the time, then Travel Blokus is the answer. I'm very glad I got the two player version for those reasons.

Also, when it comes to games with 3 or more players, I kind of like those that allow for some interaction while you're waiting for your turn to come around again (such as trading and making offers in Settlers of Catan.) If you play the original Blokus with 4 people you just have to wait your turn, and that can get a bit old sometimes if you've already decided what your next move will be and the other players are taking a long time :)

I am very satisfied with my purchase of Travel Blokus and give it 5 full stars.

1. The game components for Travel Blokus are smaller than those of Blokus, making the game easier to store/transport while traveling, as well as requiring less space to set up and play. In fact, my wife and I played the game while on an airline flight, with the gameboard resting on the two tray tables as the box lid and bottom sat on either side of the board, holding our spread-out pieces. Very convenient.

2. In Travel Blokus, the starting locations for the first pieces laid are closer to the center of the gameboard than those of Blokus (where each player's first piece begins in a corner), bringing the players in closer proximity sooner than the bigger game. This calls for some slightly different strategy and tactics in the early game.

Whether you're looking for a fun, traveling-sized game, or just a great 2-player tile-laying game in general, I highly recommend Travel Blokus for families and gaming groups.

Carcasonne is my favorite game for several reasons, but the main one is this: with a small number of simple rules, there are wads and wads of strategies possible. Playing the game amounts to an exploration of the strategies... it's like taking a hike through new territory.

Blokus has the same quality in spades. In fact, the rules are even simpler than Carcasonne, and after a day of playing the game for a dozen times I think I'm only now just seeing the real possibilities.

What a great game. The only reason I like Carcasonne better is because it's prettier, but this travel blokus sure packs a lot into a small space.
