Every time I have played this game I have had a great amount of fun playing it! I have a copy of the older version, but this newer version has extra pieces in it for more players and a few new tiles to add to the mix, so I eagerly await this new version.

In short, the object of the game is for your team of Dwarves to dig your way down to the center core and take the treasure within and then run (and usually fight) your way out to glory as you bring your treasured prize back home to your clan where you will be showered in fame and glory!

Each of your four team members (the wise, grit-generating elder, the savvy engineer, the hell-raising miner and the stout warrior) has a set of skills (and one that they specialize in) that will help your team in a variety of challenges that will come up as you dig through the caverns to the center. Getting the treasure is the easy part. Getting out is the challenge as you will then have to fend off the other teams from stealing it from you before you can get out. Many times I have been so close to victory only to be usurped by some body else!

But even failure has its rewards in this game (which is one of the elements of the game I like the best!). If you fail at something, you get grit! Little markers of stone that can be used to add to future dice rolls to help overcome other challenges in the mines or battles with other players. Another aspect I like a lot is the mines are never the same twice as it is tile based and uses a random layout to build it at the beginning of the game. The game does ramp up fairly evenly so the game is as much fun regardless of how many players you might have.

All in all, a very fun game and highly recommended!
