Designed for 1-5 players, this is the ideal way to start playing D&D. It's packed full of content for everyone and even includes a solo-play adventure! Because of the nostalgic design (down to the original cover art by Larry Elmore), the box is sure to grab the attention of millions who purchased the original in 1983.
If, like me, you have heard of Dungeons & Dragons many times, but have never had chance to learn what it's all about, then this is the one to start with! It's great for beginners who are new to hardcore RPG systems. The rules in this boxed set are slightly simplified in order to allow the new player to understand the powerful 'd20' system which it uses.
Please note: This boxed set is NOT for advanced players. They will probably find it dull and too simple. It's aimed at pure beginners only!
You get a pack of 6 dice (which are weird!), a huge dungeon map, pre-generated characters, a nice selection of monsters and an adventure book containing 6 mini-adventures. Once you understand it and have played all 6 mini-adventures included in the pack, then you will need to buy the 3rd Edition Players Handbook, and eventually the other two core books (3rd Edition Dungeon Master's Guide and 3rd Edition Monster Manual), if you are to progress further.
All in all, it's a fantastic gaming system which brings new delights the deeper you look into it. It's so flexible, that you can even twist it slightly and add your own little rules if you please!
The gaming doesn't stop at fantasy games, either. The clever boys at Wizards Of The Coast (the writers), have made the d20 system an open gaming system, which means anyone can write adventures for it! Basically, there are more genres out there, such as Sci-Fi, Cyberpunk, Pirates, Horror, etc.
If you are looking for something a little different from traditional board games and something more complex and involving, then this is a must buy! It won't be long before you are calling your friends around to play it. I give it full marks.

Ive been playing RPGs for some 9 Years. I invited a bunch of my friends over who had never even played a tabletop RPG before. I took the role of DM and they were the Players. In brief they went through the puzzles and challenges like a hot knife through butter.
Yes, Its a great game for beginners but those beginners need to be somewhere around 1st grade to have a fun challenge with this module. Overall I think the game had weak challenges but a strong sure way of teaching the game.
