"Hey, that's my grass you're eating. Get out of my pasture, you cow! Or else we're going to come to blows over this.
Once a year, mad cow disease breaks out in Buffalo City. Cowboys drive their cows from all over to get to the largest cattle auction in the wild west.
The players try to put as many cows as possible on the pastures. But as the motto goes "one cow just moos, many cows make trouble", so it's not as simple as that.
You've got to keep an eye on things, grab your chances by the horns, and figure out what your opponents are going to do. Whoever does this best will get the most points and win the game in the end.
In 1994, I got the first price at the contest of the Hippodice game club with my game SPIEL DER WEINBERGE (game of vineyards), which was published under the title VINO in 1999. VINO itself is not identic with SPIEL DER WEINBERGE, which only exists as a prototype. There are some lectoral changes, simplifications and improvements.
In 1998, FX Schmid published my different game ZOFF IN BUFFALO, which I developed after SPIEL DER WEINBERGE. The intention was to have a much easier game (playable within half an hour), but to keep most of the original principle, which friends told me is new and fun. I left out the playing money, the price change index and the brands. There are still five common principles between both of them:
The original theme of the prototype of "Zoff..." was business branches (oil, computer, cars...), then I changed to oil drilling (the regions were Saudi Arabia, Iraq, ...). Before the responsible of the company chose the cows, we thought about different sorts of flies heading for cow-pats in different sizes. I invented the game title (Zoff in Buffalo), because of its nice phonetic sound. I now know Buffalo is in the state of New York and not in Texas. The prototype was playable for 2-6 players, but because of costs the company decided to offer only a version up to 5 players. It plays best with 4 players.
