Finding the game for you

If you already know one game that you like, you can use Funagain's vast wealth of information to find other similar games. In this article, we outline some of the important features of the game detail pages.

Let's say you're a big fan of Carcassonne, like thousands of other gamers, and you'd like to find a new game to play that has something in common with what you enjoy about Carcassonne.

The Search box at the top of the left column is a great place to start. Type in the name of a game, or a designer, or even a manufacturer, and we'll list everything that matches your request. So let's say you've typed in Carcassonne and clicked "Go!"

You'll see that there are so many games with Carcassonne in the title that there's more than one page of results. Just this list alone might be a great place to start hunting for your next game purchase.

But, let's say you really want to learn more about the game you are familiar with, so you click on the image of the box cover that you recognize.

This will load the Carcassonne game page, and just in the top portion of the screen, you'll have a large number of links available to guide you toward another game you might enjoy.

There's alot going on here in this first portion so let's look at each piece a bit more closely.

Not every game has this many fans willing to write a review, but if you click on the stars you'll be taken immediately to the reviews section (not in this article, but on the game page itself). We'll come back to that in a moment.

Carcassonne has gotten quite a bit of recognition. 3 different award nominations! If you click on the award icons (again on the product page) you can read a description of the awarding organization, and see lists of other award-winning games. Since each of these awards signifies a slightly different achievement, you can find the listing most suited to your needs. Clicking these icons is a great way to find other high-quality games.

Underneath the picture of Carcassonne, you'll see a long list of links based on characteristics of Carcassonne.

If something from this list catches your attention as one of the reasons you enjoy Carcassonne, clicking on the link will give you a list of other similar games.

So, if you like games about knights & castles, or you like Carcassonne because it's a tile game and not a board game, or if you happen to be looking for other gifts for your family, this part of the page is an excellent resource.

Next to this section is more information about Carcassonne itself. Most importantly, more links are provided to list other games by the people who created the game.

Maybe you're impressed with the designer's genius and want to play more of his games. Maybe you like this high-quality production value, or the beautiful art in the game. Either way, by clicking on these links, you'll find more games matching what it is that you like about the game you're viewing.

Now, if you keep on scrolling down the page, or if you clicked on the review stars we talked about before, you'll find a section of reviews for Carcassonne.

Some of these reviews might be from magazines, or from industry writers, but one of the nicest features of Funagain is that customers can submit their own reviews.

If you find a reviewer whose opinions you trust, be sure to click the black arrow next to his or her name. This will take you to a special page listing all that person's reviews. And when you start writing reviews, that page will be a handy way for you to find all your words of wisdom.

One other customer-driven resource is the "Also Bought..." box on the right-hand side of the page. This section lists the 3 games most commonly-purchased along with this game. So, if you're looking for the most popular choices by people buying Carcassonne, this list is it.

Finally, if you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, you'll find a few final ways to get game ideas. If there are expansions to the basic game they are listed near the bottom of the page. If you're looking for ways to add a little twist to the games you enjoy, buying an expansion is an easy way to do it.

This is also where's you'll find game suggestions based on recommendations by Funagain. The section of related games lists other titles that might not have been displayed in one the various methods we have discussed in this article.

And when you finally make it all the way to the bottom of the page, you'll find links to external websites with more information. We'll leave it to you to figure out those sites.
