A fascinating variant of chess
October 21, 2001

Shogi and Chess are both descended from earlier chess-like games played in India or China. Shogi is an intriguing variant. Pieces are all of one color, but are shaped so that they lie on the board and point toward the opponent. A captured opponent's piece may be turned around and put in play anywhere on the board as part of one's own pieces. This makes for a much more dynamic game than western chess.
