Product Description

Spooks is a quick card game for 3 or more players. Play cards by matching numbers and suits. The first player to empty his hand wins... and the spooks get everybody else!

Each suit -- Spiders, Spooks, Goblins, Bones, and Bats -- has a special rule, so you don't know who will be first to escape the haunted house until the final card is played. And you can give the Master card in each suit a special power, for even spookier effects!

Spooks is a great party game for adults and kids alike!

Love the theme, but needed more artwork
May 05, 2005

As has been mentioned in other reviews, this is a fun 'mixed' card game with several different suit goals (trick-taking, uno-like number shedding, etc.) that change depending on the type of 'spook' being played. Each suit element can be changed with every card, so the game flows nicely and keeps you on your toes.

My biggest disappointment (and I have to admit I had high hopes here) is the artwork. While the boogens that were created for the game look spectacular and are genuinely creepy in some cases, I wish the artist had created a different spook for each card, rather than a unique 'master' spook and the same secondary creepy-crawly for the rest (all the number cards in each suit have the same spook). They definitely could have come up with 10 unique goblins, spiders, etc. Since the ones that are there are so good, this really feels like a missed opportunity.

As it is, this is a great game to bring out on dark and stormy nights. I would have wanted to bring it out all the time if they had commissioned more spooks, though!

Creepy Uno with Smart Twists
October 26, 2003

Spooks is a an excellent, if simple, shedding game similar to Uno or Qwitch, but has a great twist. The suit showing on the discard determines what the current rules are. Add to this a trick taking element, and Spooks allows for much more choice making than you'd initially think.

The cards themselves are absolutely gorgeous to look at, and the basic nature of the deck makes it possible to play other games with it. Highly reccomended.

Great Card Game for Everybody
October 21, 2003

I was very pleased by this game. Much more accessable than most Steve Jackson games. Good rulebook and art. The game mechanics are interesting, each suit changes the rules of the game, so everything is constanly changing. Not just a trick taking game, or Hearts ripoff. Highly recomended for everybody!
