Product Description

This is the first expansion for Havoc: the Hundred Years War. It includes a new type of character card, which is shuffled into the regular card deck and changes the game in interesting ways when one of them is drawn. For example, the John of Gaunt card, when drawn, joins the game as a player and starts a battle called The Chevauchées (a group of plundering raids.)

This expansion includes the premium cards that were given out at the game's release in Essen Germany in 2005, and at the first BoardameGeek Conference in Dallas, Texas. In addition to these, a new card not seen before has been added, as well as two extra Dogs of War which can be added to the game or used as blanks for players that want to try out character ideas of their own. The poly bag that comes with the expansion can also be used to store the tokens that come with the original game.

Great but does not change play
January 07, 2008

This is great, it adds flavor and play to the original but does not overpower the game nor diminish the the base game.

This new component of the game takes a while to get used to, but once you get used to them, they add an interesting new game element. The rules say that the extra dogs of way can be used as 'blanks' to create your own characters or use them in the game normally. I think you can also use them to allow more people to play. The John of Gaunt card makes the game interesting, because it acts as a player, and makes a new battle card. The Luc de Pauve card is also interesting, since it switches up the recruits and in some cases, foils people's plans. The Press gang card also affects play, but not to as great an extent. I think that some people may not appreciate the expansion as much, but I enjoy its addition to the game.
