Product Description

In Legendary, players take on the roles of Marvel heroes, including the Avengers and X-Men, and team up to defeat an evil Mastermind. The players have to defeat the likes of Magneto, Loki, Dr. Doom, or Red Skull to win the game - if they do, the players are ranked by the most Victory Points accumulated during play. Because of this, Legendary has a cooperative feel.

This awesome deck-builder from Upper Deck has a lot of twists to make it stand out:

* The game plays against you

* All-new artwork!

* Designed by Devin Low, head developer for Magic the Gathering

Marvel licensing at it's best
November 10, 2015

As a kid of the 1980s, I've often cursed the likes of Upper Deck who swooped in and ruined the fun of collecting baseball and football cards in the early to mid 90s. You see I'm a purist. In my collecting prime, there was Topps, Fleer and Donruss. They each sold cards; cards with stats on the back, and that's it. Then comes Upper Deck with their fancy cards all laced with gold and then with pieces of jersey or slivers of bat somehow woven into the linen card. Then there were sets within sets and all of a sudden you could/had to buy 15 different cards for each player for each season. Bah I always said! But with my immersion into the hobby gaming community later in life and the subsequent discovery of Legendary Marvel, all is forgiven Upper Deck. All is forgiven.

Most of you probably already know about the game play. It's deck building, hand drafting and semi cooperative. What makes it amazing is the pitch perfect theming Upper Deck's designers have woven into each of the Marvel characters' card abilities. For example, Hulk smashes indiscriminately, causing wicked damage to the bad guys but sometimes hurting his counterparts too. The base game includes most of the fan favorites of the Marvel Universe with various expansions filling in the gaps (Fantastic 4, Guardians of the Galaxy, more Xmen, etc). And the Villians and Masterminds you do battle against are mostly there too, although I prefer the expansion villains a bit more for their increased difficulty. The game plays like you're in an actual comic book. Foil the evil genius before he uses his henchmen to carry out some insanely nefarious scheme.

Variability is virtually endless with the different hero and villain combinations. I love the solo variant (still trying to convert my wife to the hobby) but I also created a shortened version that my kids (5 and 4 years old) love to play. Pick 3 heroes, lay out 5 villains and or henchmen in the city, plus pick a mastermind and just start playing. Its basically a math lesson with super heroes. "I have 9 fight points Daddy I just beat Loki!!" Sniff, sniff, that's my boy.

I digress. Great game. If you've made it this far, you know I love it. Pick your copy up today!
