Warhamster Rally is the crazy racing game based on the award-winning Dork Tower comic strips by John Kovalic. Players take on the roles of Dork Tower characters and compete for the ultimate prize in thoroughbred racing: The Warhamster Cup!
In Warhamster Rally, 3 to 5 players run amok, trying desperately to control their wild Warhamsters on the racetrack, dodging deadly Battle Budgies, Juggling Jongleurs, the numerous Kobold-Kin, and the most ferocious monsters of all... the other players.
I just played this game for the first time this last weekend. It is a blast! Seeing if I could push another hamster out of the way was just as fun as trying to win the game! We will have to play this game again! (I just picked it off my friend's shelf for the name!!!)
I'll start off with my one complaint about this game. The rules are sort of vague and confusing. Reading them left us all dizzy and we still didn't know what we were doing until we started playing. Once started though, this game is a lot of fun and requires a good deal of strategy and plotting to screw over your friends. Unlike other games where you try to mess other people up, in this game it's a bit more good natured. No one got mad while we were playing, despite out natural tendencies towards blood-thirsty game play. In the end, I think we were all so amused by the ridiculous, yet logical, game-play that we just had a good time. The wooden pieces and double-sided board are a nice touch too.
Ride around this wacky board on your Warhamster, careening every which way, bumping into Battle Budgies, Jongleurs, and other players. The arrows on the hexagonal board spaces may point in any direction. You get a limited number of points to spend on actions, which may include redrawing your hand or making an extra move. Begin by placing one of your four movement cards facedown. On your next turn, reveal it and move in the direction it describes relative to the arrow on which you stand. Then draw another card and place one from your hand facedown. Consider yourself fortunate if you were able to move where you'd planned! Jongleurs and Battle Budgies don't budge--they cut your move short. If you land on a Kobold-kin, you eat it and lose a turn, but gain an extra point. The first around the board wins, despite any motion sickness.
