In this game, each player is assembling a body from a large pile of body parts and healing items. A body consists not only of head, torso, arms, and legs but also a spirit and spleen to round out the innards. Healing items called Piffanys are things like Duct Tape and Happy Thoughts and are played by matching them against the symbols on the body parts cards to add to the body. Players simultaneously assemble their creatures by playing cards out of their hand. They acquire cards by trading or by drawing 1 card when an hourglass is passed to them. IF the hourglass runs out, they lose their chance to draw a card and must pass the hourglass. Score is based on the number of Piffanys it took to assemble the body and bonuses are awarded for finishing in first or second place.
Theme aside, I greatly enjoyed Nodwick for its wackiness and sheer chaos. The game play is very quick. Games take under 10 minutes or so unless you have a really slow player who refuses to pass the hourglass. It also has a fun and macabre atmosphere. After all, it's not many games where you'd be shouting 'Arms and Legs for Happy Thoughts or Duct Tape?? Does anyone need Arms and Legs?' If you like games that play quickly, are slightly random, and have a lot of energy to them then you should definitely get Nodwick.
Think you're the world's fastest surgeon? Each Body Card shows one of six body parts, plus the Material Cards needed to stitch them together. Race to form your creature with six parts in any colors. A 60-second sand timer is passed around the table: You may flip it when you get it, and you may only draw an extra card if you pass the timer to your left before it runs out.
Negotiations to exchange cards are simultaneous, heated, and competitive. Lay a body part faceup by discarding the materials it shows. Your participation ends when your creature is assembled. Play ends on completion of the required number of creatures. Score for the number of materials illustrated on your body parts, and for most like-colored cards. Most points wins. Strictly for smooth operators!
