Can you make enough money to support your tastes?
That is the burning question that lives in the hearts of The Collector! Can he gather all the precious things his heart desires, and still live within his budget? Can he make enough good buys at auctions; can he find bargains forgotten in dusty warehouses, or squirreled away in the back of an old dealer's shop? Treasures are where you find them, whether hanging in Galleries or in the hands of some stubborn old collector who likes to keep what he has.
Can you make enough money to buy the jewels, and the precious antiques, and the valuable rarities you want? Can you buy and sell, finding customers who will pay you handsomely for the treasures your have uncovered? Can you move successfully in the rarefied world of collecting valuable things?
But watch out! Bargains are teacherous! Sometimes tou spend a fortune for a valuable antique--and nobody will give you more than a pittance for it! Sometimes an expert will prove that your most valuable antique... is a worthless FORGERY!
This is the strange world of The Collector. It is a game for two to four players, who wheel and deal and buy and sell, outbidding each other to get enough money to buy up the items and collections they're really interested in. The players live in a world of rich collectors who'll pay anything, of influential friends and "connections" who might be willing to let you buy a thing or two at bargain prices. And there are windfalls, too, when whole estates go up for sale, or when somebody inherits!
You can enter this strange and wonderful world of the rich, this world of bargains and hidden treasures, where each thing is worth only what people are willing to spend for it--and if they really want it, they'll spend a fortune. Can you compete in this world? Can you be both a successful antique dealer--who earns the money he needs--and a successful collector--who can complete the most valuable Collections? And at the explosive end of he game, when you try to make all your deals at once... will you win the game? Or will you come up short?
