Absurdity rules, as the rules are absurd. The perfect game to play with (goofy) kids. Everything about the game is backwards, from the goal of losing all your money to win, to the counterclockwise movement around the board. And don't roll with your right hand! The totally unexpected changing of money (and even places!) with other players adds to the chaos.
Definitely not to be taken seriously!
I received this game as a birthday present when I was 13--20 years ago. This Christmas, while visiting my parents, we unearthed it in their spare room. I brought it home to share with my children because my family had so much fun playing it when it was new. We had many games we played often, but we regularly played Mad Magazine because it was easy, silly and a source of great madcap fun. We took it seriously though. My father even called the bus station to get the schedule for Toledo, Ohio (a space on the board instructs you to lose money if it has already left). I would definitely recommend it, but a zany sense of humor is a must. P.S. Don't buy it if your name is Alfred E. Neuman...you have no chance of winning.
I recenty purchased this game at an auction- out of sheer curiosity. What an incredible and fun surprise it turned out to be. As in the truest form of Alfred E. Neuman and MAD Magazine, this game is totally absurd. It makes no sense, has no sense of strategy or purpose and is totally against anything conventional-a truly delightful change.
In my home, we categorize games under different themes - strategy, role playing, luck,
mystery&deduction, et cetera... This game creates a new category- absurd and senseless.
We thoroughly enjoyed its ridiculous premisses and had lots of laughs playing it- My husband and I, who have experienced MAD magazine had a totally different game than did our teenaged daughters-
The total unpredictable outcome was probably the most exciting part of the game-this is definitely a game that can bridge a generation gap as well as provide a fun hour or so of total unpredictable absurdity. Definitely a positive experience.
