I recently purchased this game at a used book and game store, and it was everything I anticipated. It is definitely a first cousin to [page scan/se=0104/sf=category/fi=stockall.asc/ml=20]Tri-Ominos, with a few variations in the rules and scoring.
The main difference between this and Tri-Ominos is obvious--one more side to consider when playing--and, yes, this multiplies your choices of play to a degree that strategy becomes more of a factor.
We played it with four people, and found it entertaining and enjoyable. Because of its similarity to Tri-Ominos, and because it is basically the same game every time you play, I feel it is a four star game.
Another positive point--if you have children who need reinforcement on basic addition skills, this is a super way to address the issue.
