Great for collectors and fun to play at parties.
February 07, 1999

The following review is based my two versions of The Match Game, copyrighted 1963. This early version of The Match Game can be played with 7 players... two teams of 3 players each along with an MC. It can also be played in singles of 3 to 6 players, using chips to score points. It's a great game for a large group of people, especially at parties. It plays almost like the TV version of the 1960s. Two teams try to match answers to questions with their fellow teammates, scoring 10 points if two players match and 20 points if all three players match on a team. The first team to reach 100 points wins the game. Typical questions are 'Name An American Beverage,' 'Name A Brand Of Soap,' or 'Rain _______ (blank).' Players write their answers on scribble boards made of cardboard covered with plastic and write with a crayon that is easily rubbed off for the next answer. If you don't remember the earlier TV versions of the show, you can tell that it is different than later versions, with less humor to the questions and no bonus rounds that are found in the revised Match Games of the 1970s, 80s and 90s. It is, however, a very enjoyable game and would be fun for younger children too. The box suggests ages 10 to adult.
