Tricky, short playing time, exciting to the end
November 27, 2003

I found this game while looking for a game for a child. It is not a child's game because players need the same abilitiies as those who play Scrabble and Upwords. Overturn has an added degree of complexity over Scrabble and Upwords in that words construction need not be liniar (both 45 and 90 degree angles are permitted)as well as the conventional 180). Adults who play word games do not seem to know that this game ever existed (Pressman discontinued it). I took the game to Elderhostels and found many people who liked it and were unhappy that it was unavailable (more than one person planned to make one). A minor disadvantage is that the number of word possibilities is limited with the purchased game. A version for the computer (never written) would elininate this shortcoming.

Two last comments. The game is sufficiently complex so that a clever move can turn defeat into victory even on the last few moves. AND, a game takes about fifteen minutes to play!
