The common view is that it is sufficient to see it in order to do it. However, Visionary is a game that blocks out the visual and forces players to use kinaesthetic means to complete spatial tasks.
Aimed at players aged 8 to 88, it is a 4-8 player team game. A dice roll determines whether the player competes against the clock or a member of the opposing side. The player then dons a blindfold, while the rest of the team shout instructions on how to complete an edifice using wooden blocks as specified on one of the 33 Visionary cards.
The wooden blocks are shaped into cylinders, rectangles, squares and triangles and are aesthetically pleasing to the touch. The minor disadvantage of the game is trying to distinguish the instructions from the Babel of encouragement being yelled out by over excited team members!
Visionary was a great success at our games-cum-dinner party last weekend. It is of special value to me personally, as it is one of the few games that my father, who is partially sighted, will be able to play with us at Christmas. An excellent game which takes the view that having no vision does not preclude one from being a visionary!
