Great game!
November 13, 2001

This is a great game to play becuase it is simply a change of pace from a lot of the popular 'multiplayer solitare' games that are out nowadays. When you play this game, be prepared to sit for a while and build a strategy of who you are going to hurt, and how you can help yourself at the same time.

Granted, the regular play of the game is based heavily on luck of the draw. However, what you do with those cards is an entirely different story.

Tha humor is twisted, and that's another change from the family oriented games that are so common. I have nothing against the [page scan/se=0041/sf=category/fi=stockall.asc/ml=20]Settlers series, or [page scan/se=0027/sf=category/fi=stockall.asc/ml=20]Bohnanza, they're great games. But sometimes I just want to play a game with a different style. This game does that well.

Also, the surgery round is pretty nerve-racking in it's own right because you have to be able to feel when you should stop the surgery. Otherwise, you'll get trapped into continuing the round, and you kill your patient.

The last great point of the game is that you can change the goal to whatever you want to accomodate your mood. If you have to--or want to--play a shortened game, then you just lower the number of surgeries, or the number of pain points, needed to win. If you really want to play a marathon, then raise the goal.

It's an easy game to learn, and a fun game to play. It has no pretenses, and can really be a 'down and dirty' game. Highly recommended, but it's definitely not one for the kiddies.

Lucky Doctors Kill - Not!
July 22, 1999

This is really more of a card game than a board game. Playing rather like Mille Bornes, each 'doctor' strives to get his patients healthy enough to take into surgery. Once a patient goes onto the operating table, you switch to a different deck of cards for a sort of bonus round where the actual points are scored -- if you can keep from killing the patient! The sick humor of this game is what makes it work. Point markers in the colors of blood cells, a ballpoint pen shaped like a hypodermic, and some classy artwork help round out the package, all inspired by the 'Pain Doctors' horror stories and paintings of Alan M. Clark, who does some of the artwork in the game. Three stars for the game but an extra star for fans of the horror genre.
