This little known racing gem from McGartlin Motorsports is, I believe, the most accurate and most realistic racing game on the market.
I realize that this is a strong statement, but I sincerely believe it to be true. As it stands now, I have no desire to play any other racing game out there--this has to be the pinnacle of racing games.
It has supplanted Formula De as our group's racing game of choice, and has literally dominated the last 5 gaming sessions with no other game even hitting the table.
It's a truly fantastic game that focuses on the heart of racing itself--the passing. And it does all of this without the aid of dice. Not wanting to get into a lengthy discussion of its gameplay, I suggest you read Mike Siggins' review at the Game Cabinet. It's fairly complete and should give you a good sense of how the game plays.
I should mention that our group has made a few modifications to the game to enhance its play and to reduce some of the luck which is always apparent with card games. We now race on an oval track, and have the ability to customize our cars by spending $1000 in any of 5 categories. This really spices up the game, and forces you to make some tough decisions before the engines even start. By the way, there are several ways to win money during the race, so the money distribution for the second race will not be even--as in real racing, the stonger driver (with the better team) will have more money to spend.
If you already own the game, and would like a copy of our rule changes, email me and I'll be glad to send them to you.
If you don't own the game, get a copy if you can find one--you won't be disappointed!
(Would you believe that I live a mile from the race track in Darlington and I am not even a race fan??!! Been to only one race my entire life--just shows how much I love games, even racing games!)
