Great way to try out the system
December 03, 2004
I have been a fan of Looney Labs games ever since I tried Fluxx. I kept reading about the great games you can play with IceHouse pieces but had always thought them a bit expensive at $8 per color with most games calling for at least 4 colors. The paper version was the answer! For around $5 you get 4 "stashes" which allows you to play 100 different games. I assembles my set with the open bottom for easier storage and to allow the pieces to stack as needed for many games. While they may not last forever, my paper set does give an inexpensive audition to a ton of great games. After playing quite a few games (with no real wear visible) I'm ready to invest in the plastic pieces. Anyone interested in IceHouse and it bretheren should this set out.

Nice, fun, fragile.

Now here's an interesting approach to selling a product. Make a usable version of it which self-destructs after extended use.

Paper Icehouse is to the gaming community what shareware is to the PC community. It is a limited version of the full-fledged thing. You can play most of the games listed on the Looney Labs website with it, but the pieces are prone to falling apart, and there are some games which require stacking of the pieces, which is impossible with the paper set (Unless, of course, you want to go through each and every piece, cutting out just the right size square from the bottom. With 60 pieces, that could take a while.)
