More bang for the buck than Formula De!
October 31, 1999

This is simply the best racing game out there. I brought Formula De to our gaming group (16-20 regulars) and it was played a few times. It's a good game, but after a few weeks, no one was asking to play it. Das Motorsportspiel has been growing in popularity each week since I brought it in 5 weeks ago. Two of the last four 8-hour gaming sessions have been just DM. People are going out and buying their own cars to race with, spending $9-27 on their own Herpa 1/87 scale cars. You do get 6 Herpa cars with the set that Funagain sells. Game Cabinet gives a complete description of the game, so let me mention a couple of things about it that make it great. It is 1/87 or HO scale. The cars are detailed replicas of actual racing cars and are made by Herpa. Ie., the bits are exceptional. In game play you throw 3 dice each turn and can chose between the top face and the bottom face on each and the order in which you wish to use them. While luck is still a factor, it is minimized, replaced by puzzle-solving. Now add a timer (30 seconds works well) and you definitely separate the rookies from those who have gained some experience and knowledge of a particular track. This is an excellent game. It is well worth the price tag in quality of components and quality of game play.

Great Auto Race Game
January 03, 2002

Wonderful game, lots and lots of replay value. The action is very well balanced if you use a timer. The art work for the tracks is well done for all the courses, and the cars have no comparable match. I brought this game to our gaming group, and now have people waiting until the first game is over (about 10:30 pm) just so we can race! Its good for two to six players, young and old, competitive and the not so...but even the noncompetitive smile when they play their scores perfectly and glide into first place. This has become my most played board game, and three months ago I hadn't heard of it. If you like racing, simply pick this up. You will want a timer, as a twenty second per turn race is MUCH more exciting than one with no time limits.
