The forests are charged with the effervescence of springtime. Fairies flutter all a-buzz... great excitement and expectation accompany the new buds, for this change also heralds Gastrospeed! Banished are the unpleasant smells of gasoline and the dreadful racket of car engines -- for in this competition the champions are highly trained racing snails!
Each player controls one of six snail champions. A grand prix tour of tracks prepares him for the final race -- a grueling path... the route of championship racing "à l'escargot"!
Snail Race and Snail's Pace are 2 complete and distinct boxed sets. They can be used independently or together. The Snail Race boxed set contains the following tracks: Daisy Derby, Zigzag Carrots, Chestnut Trek, Blizzard Rally, Carnivorous Land and Cross-country Thorns.

This great little game is good for the whole family. We just finished playing a lot of this over the Christmas holidays with players of all ages. It is a good game for getting younger kids involved.
The game components are simple but nicely done, with six race tracks, a large deck of cards, 6 sets of player pieces, and some other assorted bits.
The object is to get your snail across the finish line first while dodging the attacks of the other snails and the pitfalls of the specific racetrack. This is accomplished by playing speed and event cards from the deck. Speed cards determine the movement rates and order of movement. Event cards allow you to attack other snails and also to defend yourself from their attacks. Each player plays one of each every turn (if available) from a hand of four cards. Each player fills their hand to four cards every turn.
Each game, even with the full six players, takes less than 10 minutes to play. A full tournament of all six races takes less than an hour.
