It is SOOO Cool! I love it like, almost as much as I love kitty cats! But I think that you should have to like capture the cards or something like capturing cards, not tokens!
But I still give it five stars because it is like really really good! You know! It is not worth only three stars or anything lower than that!
I bought this from the bargain aisle of a certain giraffe-mascotted toy store just to see if the mechanic of this kiddie game would serve as a possible gambling venue like Pizza Party. Well, it's not much of a betting game and it doesn't have much to do with the titular cartoon but it does get a few points for originality.
There are 40 spaces spiralling toward the center of the board and each space has a little facedown card token on it. Players roll the die and move. If they land on a space with a token on it, they stop their movement and flip over the token.
There are 5 suits of 8 tokens each numbered 1-5. Each suit has its own odd distribution of these numbers. After a player flips the first token, they guess if the next token's number will be higher or lower. If they guess right, they can stop and collect both tokens or push their luck and try to guess the next token. If they guess wrong, the face up tokens stay on the board. The next person to land on the first face up token of the row needs only to guess the next face down one to collect the whole row.
When tokens are removed, instructions are revealed on the spaces beneath. If players land on the tokenless spaces, they follow the directions instead of guessing token values. Directions include switching places with other players, losing or gaining a turn, or rolling the die against another player to steal one of their tokens.
Players who make it to the center can roll to steal tokens from opponents still in the spiral.
Once everyone finishes, the roll-off phase begins. For each suit, players can roll the die once for every token of that color they have; highest roll wins all the tokens of the suit. Whoever wins the most suits takes the game. Ties are settled with a single die roll.
On the plus side, the game goes pretty quickly and doesn't have too many fidgety rules for kids to memorize. Also, players still have a chance of winning in the second phase even if they are way behind on tokens.
On the down side, the game still has little to do with the cartoon. It's also extrememely dicey and some players could get frustrated with unlucky die rolls. The rules do take a little getting used to and the rulesheet provided is poorly written. The little tokens are kind of neat but could be lost easily by small children.
I don't know where the manufacurer came up with that orginal $20 price. It's barely worth half that.
