Itinery is a neat little beer and pretzels games which has the fun of one move leading to a string of others in the Spirit of the Parker Brother's Bonkers. No, it's not a mind buster like some of the German games out now, but there is skill and luck in nice proportions. My order will be in soon. Xanadu games hold a close place in my heart. They are different, unique and always worth there price. Oh ,for those long nights at the Marrakesh board scoring a Bogart. I still play Grand Slam Baseball once in awhile too. Not to mention Zig-Zag. Keep these great reprints coming.....YAHOO!
Joli Quentin Kansil is a game designer who has specialized in doing his own takes on relatively classic games. Backgammon led to the wonderful Marrakesh, sadly out of print. Bridge led to the two player classic of Bridgette. Solitaire led to the more recent Indochine 2000. While Itinerary is a good game, it is not up to the standards of these other games.
The basis of the game is jet-setting... Players try to visit a number of countries before the other players acheive that same goal. The game is very abstract, but not unpleasantly so. The board is an extremely abstract depiction of the world, with each of the spaces representing a number of countries, or part of a flight path. Certain spaces are marked as available, and the first person to visit that space can claim its countries toward her totall. Players must transfer from plane to plane in order to visit each space with one of the color-coded planes that can land there.
This is light fare, but fun. Unfortunately, the components are pretty cheapn and not nearly up to the standard set my most German games. This coupled with the high luck factore result in the three star score. A good game, but not a great game.
