Can the hiker cross the river without getting up close and personal with 'gators, snakes, and piranha? Move the planks among the tree stumps to help our hero across! This innovative new brainteaser is as challenging as they come, and the jungle adventure theme makes it compelling to play. The drawstring bag makes it great for travel. Forty beginner-to-expert challenge cards show where to place the stumps and planks to start each game, and a magnet in our hiker's feet makes moving the planks a snap. Getting all the way across... that won't be so easy!
I was looking for a game to have on a coffee table for folks to fiddle with during hors d'ouvres or after dinner and before dessert. I like little logic puzzles like this.
So what happened on card number six? Is it just me or is the card wrong? I was flummoxed from that moment on. I couldn't look at a single happy gator without being suspicious of factory error. Apart from that card, this game fulfilled my hopes beautifully.
ThinkFun, the company formerly known as Binary Arts, has been a mainstay in our Games 100 lists for years. The company's name may have changed, but its ability to charm and amuse has not. ThinkFun specializes in handheld puzzles that give your brain a charge with nary a single battery.
You lay a puzzle card on a grid of holes, placing the pegs (tree stumps) and planks (logs that connect pegs orthogonally at several different distances) where indicated. The hiker starts on a stump on one side of the card and must travel to a stump on the other side by moving logs, which he uses as a path from stump to stump. Your hiker can only pick up, or put down, a log adjacent to his stump. The 40 puzzles range from easy (as falling off a log) to some real stumpers.
