The object is simple... move the red boat through the channels and back to home port. AHOY MATEY! These waters are tough to navigate. A traffic jam of boats will try to block your way. Waves slide back and forth to open and close your channel. But with some smart thinking, you can steer your way home!
Ingenious little game. The mechanism is so simple and the color scheme is so pleasing that it looks like a toy for toddler. Yet the puzzles are so entertaining that they keep a 28-year-old fully occupied for all the entire pan-pacific flight (and get some curious attention from fellow passengers too). The only thing that keeps me from giving it 5-star is that the first half of its 40 puzzles are too simple (kind of like the questions in the first half of that 'Millionaire' show. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates beautiful design and execution.
Last year's GAMES Best New Puzzle still impresses us for being not only a worthy test of wits but also a shining example of clever design. Eight sliders, with their patterns of swells and troughs, are set up in the configuration of one of the 40 puzzle cards. Up to eight boats, which tend to lock adjacent sliders together, may also be added. The object is to guide your little red boat to port along the troughs by shifting the sliders and the other boats. The bumps beneath the sliders make them roll like ocean waves, and, as an added plus, they also make it hard to accidentally joggle them. A drawer is thoughtfully included at the bottom to store the boats and puzzle cards, making this puzzle excellent for travel.
