Dark clouds are gathering, and a cold wind is blowing above the towers, crenellations and tall statutes of the old city. Among the nobles in the castles and mansions below, the deadly intrigues and struggles for power continue, while the citizens of the darkening city close their doors and await the coming of night.
The Dark City is an expansion for FFG's best-selling game Citadels. The Dark City includes 14 exciting new purple district cards, a complete set of replacement cards for the 18 Citadels characters (perfect for those who have worn out their first set!), a new wooden "King" piece, and 8 handy new Citadels reference cards.

I purchased this expansion. When I opened it up, I discovered that contained essentially the same elements which the original box already contained!
How could this be, I wondered? Hmm... I guess the 2nd edition of the original game, incorporated the expansion pack into it for free. So, if you own the original game and have the expansion cards, which include the new occupations such as the #9 QUEEN, you already have the contents of this expansion pack.
The expansion pack does include something new -- about 10 new purple cards, which you do not already have. To get them you would need to purchase this expansion. I read through these cards and concluded that they added little to the game. But, then again, this expansion is just a few bucks.
